***** The Virtue Of Praying In The Mosque Of Quba’

The first mosque that was built by the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was the mosque of Quba’ in Al-Madeenah al-Munawwarah.

With regard to the order of building, al-Masjid al-Haraam was the first mosque to be built for mankind.

The mosque of Quba’ was the first mosque built by the Muslims.

Al-Masjid al-Haraam was built by Ibraaheem and the mosque of Quba’ was built by the Seal of the Messengers.

The site of al-Masjid al-Haraam was chosen by Allaah and something similar may be said about the site of the mosque of Quba’.

There are number of Hadiths from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) which speak of the virtue of praying in the mosque of Quba’:

Ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) narrated that:

كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَأْتِي مَسْجِدَ قُبَاءٍ كُلَّ سَبْتٍ مَاشِيًا وَرَاكِبًا

“The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to go to the mosque of Quba’ every Saturday, walking or riding.

[Al-Bukhaari (1193) and Muslim (1399)]

According to a report narrated by Muslim:

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَأْتِي مَسْجِدَ قُبَاءٍ رَاكِبًا وَمَاشِيًا فَيُصَلِّي فِيهِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ

The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to go to the mosque of Quba’ walking or riding, and he would pray two rak’ahs there.

Usayd ibn Zuhayr al-Ansaari, who was one of the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

الصَّلَاةُ فِي مَسْجِدِ قُبَاءٍ كَعُمْرَةٍ

“Prayer in the mosque of Quba’ is like ‘Umrah.”

[Al-Tirmidhi (324) Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi].

Sahl ibn Hunayf narrated that: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

مَنْ خَرَجَ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَ هَذَا الْمَسْجِدَ مَسْجِدَ قُبَاءَ فَصَلَّى فِيهِ كَانَ لَهُ عَدْلَ عُمْرَةٍ

“Whoever goes out to this mosque, the mosque of Quba’, and prays therein, will have (a reward) like that of ‘umrah.”

[Al-Nasaa’i (699) Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Nasaa’i].

All of that is haraam.
