likeness of a good companion and a bad companion

***** Be careful! Your bad companion will bring you nothing but evil

***** likeness of a good companion is that of one who carries musk

***** likeness of a bad companion is that of one who works the bellows

It should be noted that bad company will bring nothing but evil, so protect yourself against that. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) likened a bad companion to the one who operates the bellows: either he will burn your clothes, or you will notice a foul smell from him.

It was narrated from Abu Moosa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

مَثَلُ الْجَلِيسِ الصَّالِحِ وَالسَّوْءِ كَحَامِلِ الْمِسْكِ وَنَافِخِ الْكِيرِ ، فَحَامِلُ الْمِسْكِ إِمَّا أَنْ يُحْذِيَكَ ، وَإِمَّا أَنْ تَبْتَاعَ مِنْهُ ، وَإِمَّا أَنْ تَجِدَ مِنْهُ رِيحًا طَيِّبَةً ، وَنَافِخُ الْكِيرِ إِمَّا أَنْ يُحْرِقَ ثِيَابَكَ ، وَإِمَّا أَنْ تَجِدَ رِيحًا خَبِيثَةً

“The likeness of a good companion and a bad companion is that of one who carries musk and one who works the bellows. With the carrier of musk, either he will give you some or you will buy some from him, or you will notice a good smell from him; as for the one who works the bellows, either he will burn your clothes or you will notice a bad smell from him.”

Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5543; Muslim, 2628.

***** NO GOSSIP MONGER WILL ENTER PARADISE The motive in spreading gossip is either ill will towards the person of whom one speaks or to show love to the person to whom one speaks, or to indulge in unnecessary talk and falsehood. All of that is haraam. There is a great deal of evidence in the Quran and Sunnah (prophetic traditions) to show that gossip is haraam (impermissible), such as the verses in which Allah says: وَلَا تُطِعْ كُلَّ حَلَّافٍ مَّهِينٍ هَمَّازٍ مَّشَّاءٍ بِنَمِيمٍ “And do not obey every worthless habitual swearer.
